A Dearborn Heights man, Kamal Abou Darwiche, 62, has been put on probation following his plea of guilty to charges of attempted child sexually abusive activity and harboring a juvenile. ClickOnDetroit reported that additional charges against Darwiche were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Darwiche was accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl who had run away from the Vista Maria facility for vulnerable children. The girl had been reported missing since March 14, 2025, and was discovered close to six weeks later, on April 23 at Darwiche's home. CBS Detroit provided details of the sentencing, stating that Darwiche was ordered to three years of probation and required to register as a sex offender. He was also mandated to have no contact with the teen and to undergo psychological and sex offender counseling.
At the time of the sentencing, Darwiche declined to provide a statement before the judge issued the terms of his punishment, which were delivered via Zoom from Calhoun County Jail. The teenager was also present for the sentencing on Zoom but chose not to make a victim impact statement.
Sources discussing the case noted that the judge alluded to the potential for Darwiche to be deported, further complicating the situation. Regarding his immigration status, Hoodline referenced statements by Darwiche's attorney, Amir Markled, who countered claims that his client might be a flight risk by stating, "The visa that he was here on doesn't expire until 2027." In addition, a relative of the girl expressed their anguish and desire for justice in the Hoodline piece, conveying, "We just hope he gets what he deserves." Following the recovery of the teen, she has been placed under the care of Child Protective Services.
