Aspiring young heroes in Denton have a unique opportunity to get a taste of firefighting this week. Denton County Emergency Services District No. 1 & 2 is still accepting applications for their Junior Firefighter Camp, designed to give kids aged 9 to 13 a hands-on experience with the life of a firefighter. According to the social media post from the Denton County Emergency Services District No. 1 & 2, children participating in the camp will learn vital fire safety and emergency skills, gear up in real firefighting equipment, and even get to operate a fire hose.

The camp sessions are scheduled to take place on July 7 at Station 511, July 9 at Station 513, and July 10 at Station 514. This program comes at no cost but requires an adult to stay with the child throughout the camp. It's described as a perfect mix of fun, learning, and confidence-building activities that are led by real firefighters. The camp is designed to closely and safely allow kids to engage directly in the work that firefighters do, and it aims to inspire them, perhaps to one day seriously pursue the profession.

In a statement shared by the Denton County Emergency Services District, the camp provides more than just a fun day; it hopes to bolster team-building skills as well. "It’s a morning of hands-on fun, learning, and confidence-building led by real firefighters," the post states.
