The city has reopened the doors to its freshly renovated Scale House at the landfill, now complete with a series of upgrades targeting efficiency and safety. With the facility being a crucial first stop for accurately charging customers and disposing of materials, these enhancements signal the City of Denton's commitment to sustainable solid waste management. According to the City of Denton's announcement, visitors to the landfill will experience improved traffic flow thanks to the addition of five weigh scales, three for incoming traffic and two for the exit, aiming to cut down wait times and reduce traffic backups.
On the safety front, the Scale House said goodbye to an obsolete overhead bridge system, opting for clearly demarcated and safer walkways to connect all scales; meanwhile, a new walk-up window now offers a pedestrian path that caters to a more accessible customer experience. Brenda Haney, Director of Solid Waste and Recycling, emphasized the facility's role in community service, noting, per the City of Denton, "These improvements not only bring the facility up to modern standards, but they also dramatically improve safety, efficiency, and overall service for both customers and staff."
