The Mile-High City is gearing up for a series of hot days and scattered thunderstorms, according to the latest weather briefing from the National Weather Service out of Denver, Colorado. Denver residents can expect another hot day today with scattered showers and storms expected across the higher elevations this afternoon, spreading across the I-25 corridor into the evening, the National Weather Service stated. Forecasts mention the possibility of storms quickly becoming capable of producing small hail, lightning, and gusty outflow winds up to 50 mph. Residents are duly taking note to prepare for any abrupt shifts in weather patterns.
Looking ahead, an "active pattern will continue through the long-term period," with the NWS advising to be ready for multiple consecutive days with the potential for afternoon showers and thunderstorms. This pattern is punctuated by high temperatures across the plains. However, a brief cooldown is expected by Wednesday thanks to a passing shortwave and associated cold front. Residents should keep an eye out as this cooldown could lead to "widespread showers and storms," the weather service reports. With a flux of westerly flow aloft and precipitable water values expected to increase to between 130%-160% above normal, Denver may have to easily brace for storms with heavy rainfall and the isolated threat of some becoming severe.
The city's weather outlook isn't all cloudy skies, though. The NWS expects temperatures to rebound sharply by the end of the week, with readings forecast to climb back into the 90s on Friday. This high temperature trend is set to persist through the upcoming forecast period, assuring a return to the kind of summer heat more typical of the Colorado climate.
