The Mile High City is bracing for a smattering of showers and thunderstorms starting this afternoon, with the National Weather Service (NWS) Denver/Boulder warning residents of a 40% chance of precipitation coupled with gusty winds, as per their latest forecast update. Denver's high today is expected to approach a sweltering 91 degrees, but things will cool down to a low around 61 degrees as north-northeast winds pick up after dark, according to the National Weather Service.
For Monday, the forecast from NWS anticipates a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon under mostly sunny skies, while Tuesday's outlook suggests sunny weather early on, followed by a 20 percent chance of storms after noon. The thermometer is climbing close to a scorching 95 degrees, with similar gusty winds expected. Wednesday is set to bring even higher temperatures, with the NWS predicting a high of about 100 degrees, and while the night should cool to around 66 degrees, thermometers will remain on the high side for the rest of the week.
The weather scenario takes a more severe turn over the plains, where the NWS Hazardous Weather Outlook has alerted to potential strong wind gusts up to 60 mph, and the possibility of large hail accompanying the thunderstorms, especially today and tonight. According to the Outlook, Denver seems poised to escape the worst of the weather, with the most significant threats positioned over the eastern plains.
