A high-speed pursuit that unfolded on the streets of DeSoto on Saturday night ended with a bang, not a whimper, as local police managed to apprehend a 20-year-old suspect wanted for a third-degree felony. The action started when DeSoto Police, known as the Charlie Shift, were alerted by the Flock Camera System to the presence of a Black Chevrolet Corvette, tied to an individual with an active arrest warrant, according to a social media post from the DeSoto Police Department.
The pursuit began near a local bowling alley on Northgate Drive, where officers attempted to make contact with the car's driver, Dario Franco Ramirez, in the associated vehicle evading suddenly, the vehicle's lights were turned off in an obvious attempt to lose the pursuing officers. Despite this, the police's coordinated efforts led to the successful deployment of spike strips, effectively crippling the Corvette's escape on N. Hampton Road, the Police Department reported.
However, the chase was far from over as Ramirez steered the disabled car into a residential neighborhood and onto the property of an unsuspecting resident in the 700 block of Hilltop Circle. The timely intervention of this resident, who reported the suspicious parking, played a crucial role in ending the chase; the police were able to move in and arrest Ramirez. A discovery by the officers unveiled a device in the Corvette designed to flip its license plates, a contrivance considered a Class B Misdemeanor, as elaborated by the police statement.
