A house explosion occurred on Detroit’s east side just before 4 p.m. on Saturday, resulting in the death of a woman and serious injuries to a man. The incident happened in the 19400 block of McCormick Street. Neighbors reported the impact, saying, “The house shook like something blew. Air conditioning fans and debris were all in the streets,” according to CBS News.

As per CBS News, officials reported that both homes next to the house that exploded were damaged and are now uninhabitable. No one was inside either of those houses at the time. Detroit Fire Department Senior Chief Darnell McLaurin said, “We have the one house in the middle that exploded, and the two houses on either side of it. The first house on the left, we found nobody in it. The individual that lived in the house next door was already outside, so there were no injuries or issues in that house either, so both of those and all three houses are uninhabitable at that point.” DTE has shut off utilities to all three homes as a safety measure.

A woman in her early 40s died and a 46-year-old man was injured in a house explosion in Detroit. Firefighters found the man with burns on the upper half of his body and took him to Detroit Receiving Hospital. Executive Fire Commissioner Chuck Simms said, "At that time we immediately ordered excavation equipment to come out so we can start our search and rescue and unfortunately we did a find a deceased person in the house," as mentioned by ClickOnDetroit. The cause of the explosion is still being investigated. Battalion Chief Brian Cross told FOX 2 Detroit that the injured man said he had been cooking, went back to the kitchen, and found it on fire before the explosion happened. Cleanup and investigation are ongoing.
