On Friday morning, Detroit police began searching for suspects involved in a shooting at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center. Shots were fired around 4:49 a.m. from a gray sedan, causing damage to the building. First Assistant Chief Charles Fitzgerald said the suspects drove around the building while firing what is believed to be a pellet or BB gun, based on the absence of typical gunfire noise, according to CBS News Detroit.
Fox 2 Detroit reports that six windows on the southern side of the building sustained "massive damage" in a drive-by shooting. Another shot later hit a window on the north side. Cleaning crews discovered the damage around 6 a.m.
Charles Fitzgerald said, "It’s not funny; it’s not a game to us," as he asked those involved to turn themselves in, as stated by Audacy. No one was hurt because the building was empty at the time. Fitzgerald said some people nearby did not react to the gunfire, and no 911 call was made. Police are reviewing surveillance video and looking for a gray Nissan or Kia sedan. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detroit police or Crime Stoppers.
