Curiosity about the makeup of Farragut's town can now be sated as the local government has announced the opening of its annual 'Introduction to Farragut' program. Interested individuals who need not be residents can now submit their applications until 4:00 p.m. on July 31, according to the town's official announcement. The course offers insights into the town’s history, government, public services, and provides opportunities for civic engagement.
Starting with a reception at the Farragut Town Hall on August 27, the program is a series of Wednesday classes, stretching into October. It’s designed to foster a closer connection between the community and the town's inner workings. The organizers have promised an optional tour during the program conducted by Town Administrator David Smoak, something that should give participants a behind-the-scenes look at the town on the morning of Friday, Oct. 3.
The requirements for graduation from the program are manageable, asking participants to attend at least four of the five classes, engage with the municipal process by attending local government meetings, and get hands-on with a volunteer project at the Farragut Primary School. Details about the volunteer efforts will be divulged at the campaign's kickoff. Participants will mark their completion with a graduation dinner on Nov. 12 at the Farragut Community Center.
Seats for this immersive experience are limited, and those who make the cut will be informed within a week or so following the deadline. Hopeful attendees have the option to apply through the town's website or email the completed forms to Allison Scott at [email protected]. Further information can be obtained by contacting Scott directly either via email or by calling 865-966-7057.
