Residents in Douglas County now have a streamlined way to assist their homeless neighbors via a simple text message. The county's Homeless Engagement, Assistance and Resource Team (HEART), which operates in tandem with law enforcement, has officially expanded its communications to include text capability, to make outreach and support more accessible for the community.

Those looking to help can reach out to HEART by sending a message to 303-660-7301 or by filling out an online referral form. This initiative aims to quickly connect unhoused individuals with the resources they need and to prevent them from unnecessarily ending up in jails or emergency rooms. "We have functionally ended homelessness in Douglas County through our dedicated HEART Navigators and Handouts Don’t Help Campaign. We now want to make sure to quickly ensure the compassionate members of the public can reach us easily with their preferred form of communication: TEXT," said Commissioner Abe Laydon, Chair of the Homeless Initiative and founder of HEART, as reported by Douglas County.

HEART's approach, in collaboration with local law enforcement, strives to provide comprehensive support for those experiencing homelessness. The co-responder team of Navigators joins forces with officers to address community concerns related to homelessness and guide those in need to helpful services. This system underscores the commitment of the community and the government to serve its most vulnerable residents efficiently and humanely.
