Memphis' Cooper-Young neighborhood experienced an unexpected disruption yesterday when a vehicle collided with Celtic Crossing Irish Pub. According to Action News 5, the crash occurred around 9 a.m., causing considerable damage to the building and prompting an indefinite closure of the establishment. The driver of the vehicle, who fell unconscious due to a medical issue at the wheel, was cited for striking a fixed object and financial responsibility after being transported to the hospital in non-critical condition.
Further reporting from WREG reveals that the impact of the crash split the restaurant’s front porch in half and resulted in injuries to an individual, fortunately, they sustained non-critical injuries and were aided by the police and emergency responders the site, which caused officials to shut down all lanes of Cooper Street between Nelson and Young during the cleanup and investigation. Celtic Crossing has turned to social media to communicate its status, requesting patrons to follow its updates concerning its reopening.
Residents and fellow business owners in the area have expressed relief that the incident did not result in more severe harm. "Luckily it happened on a Monday when most of the businesses are closed in the morning," Taylor Sherbine, a resident, told FOX13 Memphis. The sentiment was echoed by Ben Reese, another neighbor, who pointed out the time of the crash as a fortunate factor in the lack of injuries, suggesting that it could have been much worse had the pub been full, as it often is during peak hours.
