Yesterday evening in Gaston County, an individual found themselves the focus of a dramatic rescue operation after their car plunged down a 50-foot embankment. As reported by the Gastonia and Agriculture Center Fire Departments, the rescue took place along Dallas-Bessemer City Road. Using a crafted rope system, the patient was hoisted from the wreckage, saved from a scenario that left their car ensnared by the local kudzu-covered landscape, sources say.
According to QC News, the teams set up the rigging necessary to navigate the precarious terrain and retrieve the individual. In pictures shared by the Gastonia Fire Department, one can see that the vehicle involved was a Subaru SUV, clinging to the greenery. Although visually striking, the scene reminds us how suddenly the paths of people's lives can change, dictated by the unpredictable hand of fate.
WBTV noted that the location of the incident was close to the intersection of Dallas-Bessemer City Highway and Dallas-Cherryville Highway. A basket was part of the rescue apparatus, serving to keep the injured person secure as they were raised back to the safety of the road above.
As captured in the snapshots, firefighters meticulously executed the extraction. "Firefighters used a short haul long haul system to lift the person out of the embankment to be transported to the hospital," detailed by WCNC. Clad in harnesses, the crew delved into the earthen depths where the car had come to rest, their primary objective, kept in the forefront: the preservation of life was clearly not threatened, judging by reports of non-life-threatening injuries.
