A Dyer County man faces multiple charges after reportedly firing shots at a fire department and a local business in a situation that could have led to severe consequences. The Dyersburg Police Department revealed on social media that 41-year-old Phillip Allen McGuire was arrested and charged with six counts of felony reckless endangerment and vandalism.
The charges stem from an incident in which McGuire allegedly engaged in a drive-by shooting at the Dyersburg Fire Department downtown while firefighters were inside. The nearby business, First Choice Farm and Lawn, also experienced damage with two Kubota tractors being shot at on Highway 51 Bypass. The police indicated that the damage caused to the fire department and its equipment exceeded $1,000.
In a detailed account of the events, the Dyersburg Police Department's post provided insight into how the suspect was identified. Police officers responded to a call regarding damage to the fire department on Saturday morning and were also alerted to an alarm at First Choice Farm and Lawn just before noon on the same day.
Authorities pieced together the case against McGuire using various forms of surveillance technology, including Sky Cop, Flock, and other cameras coupled with License Plate Readers. The concerted use of this technology proved essential in tracking down the suspect, who now faces serious allegations in what could have been a perilous incident with shots fired at structures where people were present.
As this case unfolds, the community awaits further details and the legal process to address the specifics of the charges. McGuire's actions have highlighted the potential dangers facing public servants and have put a spotlight on the security measures in place at local businesses and emergency services.
