An Eastpointe McDonald's manager was fatally stabbed by a coworker after being sent home earlier in the day due to an argument. The altercation occurred yesterday and resulted in the death of 39-year-old Jennifer Harris, who was a mother of six and had been a McDonald's employee for 15 years, as reported by CBS News Detroit.
According to authorities, the incident unfolded at the franchise located in the 17900 block of 9 Mile Road. The suspect, identified only as a 26-year-old woman in reports from The Detroit News, returned to the restaurant armed with a knife and mask. She allegedly attacked and stabbed Harris multiple times. A customer at the drive-thru, witnessing the stabbing and carrying a gun, fired a shot in an attempt to halt the assault, though no one was struck by the bullet.
Detained by the armed customer until police arrival, the suspect was later apprehended by Eastpointe police. Yusef Alcodray, the local owner and operator of the Eastpointe McDonald's, released a statement declaring his establishment had no tolerance for violence and expressed his grief over the tragic incident. "We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident, and our hearts go out to the victim's family and loved ones," Alcodray stated, as conveyed in a release by WXYZ.
Harris's eldest daughter, Antonia Griffin, emotionally recounted to WXYZ about her mother's dedication. "She was the best mom anybody could ever ask for. My mama, she woke up every day and went to work for us, for us. My mama died trying to take care of us," Griffin said. Capturing the disbelief amongst her colleagues at McDonald's, Kelly McAlpine told CBS News Detroit, "I'm shocked. I couldn't believe it. I was devastated." The investigation continues, and the suspect awaits charges as the Macomb County prosecutors review the case.
