El Paso County is set to receive a significant boost in public safety with the addition of a new rescue vehicle, made possible through federal funding efforts spearheaded by U.S. Congressman Jeff Crank. According to El Paso County Sheriff's Office, the vehicle is included in the Fiscal Year 2026 Commerce, Justice, and Science (FY26 CJS) Appropriations Bill, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives.
In the previous year, having responded to more than 275 high-risk situations, the current rescue unit has been a cornerstone of the County's safety operations. The aging unit, which has played a crucial role in operations ranging from encounters with barricaded suspects to high-risk warrant procedures, will be replaced by the newly funded rescue vehicle. When discussing the essential nature of the new acquisition, “I am proud to announce my office has secured essential funding to support public safety in Colorado’s Fifth Congressional District,” said Congressman Crank, as per the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
The new Armored Rescue Vehicle (ARV) marks an investment in the efficacy of emergency response protocols for El Paso County. El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal expressed gratitude for the efforts that led to this critical funding, noting that it's an important step in improving community safety. "The acquisition of a new rescue vehicle is not just an investment in equipment—it’s an investment in the safety of our entire community," said Sheriff Roybal, as obtained by El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
