El Paso County was the scene of a harrowing disturbance that could have escalated without the swift intervention of local deputies in a recent incident that took place on July 21st. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call, filled with the sounds of yelling and the terrifying utterances of threats of violence, a disturbing tableau broadcast through an open phone line. According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, the address was traced to the 7800 block of Parsonage Lane, prompting a rapid deployment of law enforcement to the scene.
Upon their arrival, deputies found a handgun discarded on the road, and their quick action to encircle the home was crucial as it was a point of no return, a pivotal moment where the narrative of this day could have turned tragic. It was reported that two individuals exited the residence, informing deputies of a third person inside, Troy Releford, a 60-year-old man allegedly with access to additional weapons. Deputies then engaged with Releford, who stubbornly remained seated on the porch initially ignoring commands.
The situation took a turn towards resolution as deputies utilized a mix of calm negotiation tactics and strategic de-escalation techniques. "Using calm communication and strategic de-escalation," the deputies were able to influence Releford to move to a point where he could be safely apprehended, as detailed by El Paso County Sheriff's Office. Releford, who eventually seated himself on a cinder block in the driveway, was taken into custody without further incident using a modified tiered response approach.
