The city of El Paso has reported its 31st traffic fatality of the year following a collision that occurred on Tuesday. According to the El Paso Police Department, the Special Traffic Investigations unit arrived at the scene along the 2500 block of North Mesa to assess a traffic crash that tragically claimed the life of the involved motorist, McCuan.
During the investigation, authorities discovered that Mrs. Ortega had exited a private drive onto the intersection of Robinson and N. Mesa. It was here that Ortega's vehicle was struck by McCuan, who was heading north at the time of the incident. While Ortega did not sustain injuries in the encounter, McCuan suffered fatal consequences, later dying at a local hospital. Their report suggested that Ortega's failure to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign, and the potential of McCuan's speed may be associated factors in the calamitous event.
This latest incident brings the year's toll to just one short compared to the 32 traffic-related deaths the city had seen at the same point in 2024, reflective of a persistent challenge in curbing roadway accidents. The ongoing investigation by the Special Traffic Investigations unit aims to provide a clearer depiction of the causes and circumstances that led to this unfortunate fatality.
