Elk Grove Police are investigating a man's death after a disturbance at a Chevron gas station on Promenade Parkway. Officers responded to reports of a 37-year-old man trying to enter the employee area and possibly being under the influence of narcotics, as reported by the Elk Grove Police Department.
A man died on Sunday after an encounter with Elk Grove police. Officers responded to a call about suspicious behavior and said the man resisted arrest, leading to a struggle that lasted about four to five minutes. Two officers had minor injuries. Police said that "while in handcuffs, the male continued to struggle," and he was placed in a WRAP device for safety. Suspected cocaine was found on him. Soon after being put in a patrol car, he had a medical emergency. Officers and fire personnel gave aid and got a pulse before he was taken to a hospital, where he later died. The incident is under investigation, as stated by the Elk Grove Police Department.
According to the Elk Grove Police Department on their Facebook page, two independent reviews will be done following an in-custody death—one by the department’s Professional Standards Bureau and another by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. An internal investigation is also underway. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will confirm the man’s identity. The reviews will examine whether proper procedures were followed during the incident.
