Passengers aboard an American Airlines flight at Denver International Airport experienced emergency procedures Saturday when their Miami-bound plane encountered a maintenance issue before takeoff. According to KDVR, the flight was stopped on the runway, and emergency services, including DEN First Responders and the Denver Fire Department, were called to the scene.
Airlines flight 3023 had 173 passengers and six crew members on board when the incident involving an aircraft tire occurred. The Denver Fire Department shared an update on social media stating that firefighters had extinguished a fire after responding to the aircraft. "American Airlines flight 3023 experienced a maintenance issue prior to takeoff at Denver International Airport. All customers and crew deplaned safely, and the aircraft was taken out of service to be inspected by our maintenance team. We thank our team members for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for their experience," said American Airlines, covered by KDVR.
The Federal Aviation Administration provided additional details, indicating that the aircraft, a Boeing 737 MAX 8, faced a possible landing gear issue during its departure roll. The FAA's statement, as detailed by Denver7, confirmed that all passengers were evacuated onto the runway and bused to the terminal.
While the majority of those aboard appeared to be unharmed, a DIA spokesperson revealed, one individual was transported to the hospital for a minor injury. Five others received evaluations on the scene but required no further medical attention. According to The Denver Post, the rest of the passengers were slated to continue their journey to Miami on a replacement aircraft later the same day. The FAA has announced that it will investigate the incident to determine the precise cause of the problem.
