Ascend to the heavens for a sunrise experience like no other this summer and fall, as Pikes Peak, famously dubbed America's Mountain, opens its gates for a select few early morning hours. For those yearning to bask in the silent splendor of dawn's first light at 14,000 feet, mark your calendars for July 12, July 18, August 1, September 27, and October 13. Visitors eager to drink in the serene beauty can secure a timed entry permit to scale the mountain's heights by road or, in a fresh offering this year, embrace the ease of a shuttle ride for a guided climb to the summit.

As obtained by the City of Colorado Springs, Skyler Rorabaugh, the manager of Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain, shared the enticing prospect: “The Sunrise Openings offer a unique opportunity to experience peace and tranquility while witnessing the breathtaking beauty of dawn at 14,115 feet – it's truly magical”, he said. These special events allow indulging in moments of reflection, underscored by a special breakfast menu as the sunrise gilds the sweeping vistas.

For those inclined to self-navigate, timed entry permits are available at a nominal $2 fee; these must be bought beforehand online, adding to a standard admission that registers at $18 for adults and $8 for children ages 6-15, with kids 5 and under enjoying free access. Alternatively, a carful can procure a one-day pass for $65. It is crucial to note, the North Slope Recreation Area remains inaccessible during these sunrise observances. As for shuttle enthusiasts, adult tickets come at $35 with a smaller $10 fee for the youthful observers aged 6 to 15, the youngest among us ride free of charge. Departing from the conveniently located North Pole - Santa’s Workshop parking lot, these shuttles ferry guests skyward from 4:30 a.m. onward, after a recommended early arrival.

Post-sunrise, the descent shuttles chart a return an hour later, allowing ample time for exploration, shopping, or the savoring of a famed summit donut. Few experiences can rival the hushed anticipation of a mountain dawn, wrapped in the expectation of the day's first glow, and Pikes Peak holds its promise ready for those wishing to witness nature's daily rebirth. As these morning events hinge on the whims of weather, space is also finite for entry permits and shuttle bookings. Do note that the Cog Railway will not service these sunrise trips for the season.
