In a routine traffic stop gone awry, Fairfield Police Department officers seized a significant quantity of drugs and a loaded firearm late last week. According to the department's social media post, the incident occurred last Friday, when Officer Tom pulled over a vehicle for a moving violation at around 10:45 PM. A subsequent records check of the driver unearthed multiple outstanding warrants, setting events that would lead to an arrest and sizable drug discovery in motion.
During the stop, the officer reported seeing both loose marijuana and open containers of it inside the vehicle, which prompted a legally justified probable cause search. This search, in turn, uncovered more than just illicit substances. Fairfield Police announced that more than one pound of processed marijuana, along with a loaded firearm and other narcotics, were found within the car.
42-year-old Kelsey Smith, the driver at the stop, now faces several charges, as detailed by the Fairfield Police Department. Smith was arrested and subsequently transported to County Jail, where they are held on various firearms-related charges, alleged marijuana sales, and the numerous prior warrants.
