The Santa Rosa Police Department has been actively investigating a fatal vehicle collision that occurred on the 2800 block of Corby Avenue last Saturday. The distressing ordeal involved a three-vehicle collision, as reported by SRPD via social media post.
According to the details provided by the police, the incident took place around 3:14 pm, and the local authorities, alongside Fire and Medical teams, promptly responded to the chaos brought on by the crash. As garnered from witness accounts and surveillance video, the sequence of events indicates that trouble began when a white Lexus SUV, attempting to evade impacting a halted red Toyota, swerved and collided head-on with a red Honda. The Lexus first side-swiped the Toyota, which was stationary, preparing to turn, and then struck the Honda mercilessly, ultimately claiming the life of its driver.
The driver of the Honda was found unresponsive and declared deceased at the scene, while the drivers of the other two vehicles avoided physical harm. The area of Corby Avenue where the collision occurred was subsequently closed for around four hours, disrupting what was previously just an average Saturday.
Santa Rosa Police Department's Accident Investigators and an SRPD Evidence Technician have since been trying to piece together the cause of the collision. The driver of the white Lexus cooperated with the authorities, explaining that he didn't notice the stopped Toyota in time, and his subsequent evasive action led him into the oncoming lane and directly into the path of a red Honda. "He indicated that he did not see the red Honda prior to the collision," according to the official account from SRPD. The investigation continues to determine whether factors such as speed or alcohol played a part in the catastrophe. Officers are liaising with the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office to consider potential charges against the Lexus driver.
Names of the involved parties have not yet been disclosed to the public, as the police are in the process of informing the next of kin of the deceased. Meanwhile, the SRPD has issued a call for anyone with information about the crash to contact Officer Brenden Sawyer at [email protected].
