Last night, a blaze disrupted the quiet of the 11800 Block of McCord Road. Huntersville Fire Department reported that their Stations 1, 3, along with Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue, responded to a significant structure fire after the evening had wound down into its latter hours. Flames were visible leaping from the second story of a building when Engine 1 arrived at the scene.
The intensity of the fire did not deter the determination of the firefighting crews. "Crews made quick work of it, with a control time in approximately 30 minutes," was how the department described the efficiency with which the flames were subdued. This effort likely prevented a greater disaster, preserving what remained of the night’s peace for most residents. Mecklenburg County Fire Marshals Office is currently spearheading an investigation into both the origin and cause of the fire, seeking to put puzzle pieces together in the aftermath of yet another reminder of the fragility of our erect edifices.
