Folsom Fire Chief Ken Cusano has announced his retirement after nearly 30 years of service. He will step down on October 9. Cusano joined the Folsom Fire Department in 1998 and became fire chief in 2020. He has led a team of over 90 employees. According to the City of Folsom, Cusano said that working with a dedicated team and serving the community was the most rewarding part of his career.

The Folsom community saw several new programs and department growth during Chief Cusano’s time in leadership. Before becoming chief, he served as a division chief and helped develop programs such as arson investigation and tactical SWAT medic teams. He also supported the construction and improvement of local fire stations. Chief Cusano introduced a social host ordinance aimed at reducing the use of illegal fireworks. “Serving the Folsom community has been a privilege and an honor,” Cusano told The City of Folsom.

City of Folsom Fire Chief Ken Cusano is stepping down, and the City of Folsom will begin an executive recruitment process this summer to fill the position. During his time as chief, the department started a peer support dog program, the first of its kind in the area, and Cusano helped improve training and recruitment efforts. City Manager Bryan Whitemyer said, “The Folsom community is safer and stronger because of his dedication to public safety and innovative leadership.” For more information about the Folsom Fire Department, residents can call 916-461-6300 or visit the official City of Folsom website.
