
Over the weekend, former Michigan basketball player Gregg Glenn III passed away at the age of 22. The nature of the “tragic accident” that led to the young athlete's death has not been disclosed, as reported by ClickOnDetroit.
Gregg Glenn III, who began his college career at Michigan and later transferred to Tulane, had played as a forward standing at 6-foot-7. His passing was confirmed by Tulane yesterday: "Glenn, a 6-foot-7 forward from Pompano Beach, Florida, began his college career at Michigan before transferring to Tulane after his freshman year. He was set to spend his senior season with the Green Wave," according to a statement obtained by The Detroit News.
During his freshman year at Michigan, Glenn participated in four games before transferring. As a junior at Tulane, he played a key role in the team's performance. "In 34 games, he shot 49.8% from the floor and averaged 10.6 points and 5.3 rebounds," as noted by MLive.
Following the news of his passing, former coaches and teammates shared their condolences. "Heartbreaking news. Hug your loved ones every chance you get," former assistant coach Phil Martelli wrote on social media, whereas Tarris Reed Jr. shared, "Love you bro. Doesn’t even feel real man," in an Instagram story, as per a report by The Detroit News.
Tulane Vice President of Student Affairs Sarah Cunningham extended her sympathies to Glenn's community and family, stating, "Our heartfelt sympathies go out to (Glenn’s) family, friends, and everyone who knew and cared for him during this difficult time," as mentioned in the Tulane men’s basketball program's message obtained by The Detroit News. She also highlighted his impact beyond athletics: "Gregg was an outstanding athlete on our men’s basketball team and an individual who brought joy and light to those around him. His commitment to excellence inspired many of us."
