
A multi-agency sting in Holyoke on Friday led to the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of a dangerous mix of narcotics including heroin laced with fentanyl, cocaine, and crack-cocaine. The Holyoke Police Department announced the results of the operation, which was a collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Western Massachusetts FBI Gang Task Force, Massachusetts State Police, and Hampden District Attorney’s SAFE Unit.
Officials were able to quickly act on information that identified Alfonso Rivera dealing heroin/fentanyl at Elm Street and Appleton Street. Law Enforcement Officers then moved to arrest another dealer, William Miranda, in the same area. In a statement, Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan reported approximately $375 in cash was seized from Alfonso Rivera, whilst officers retrieved additional narcotics from his possession. The coordinated effort further cracked down on the local drug trade, unto reveal an encrypted network of supply and demand that has long plagued the streets of Holyoke.
The arrests carried out by the officers involved simultaneous moves. As they detained Alfonso Rivera, they also captured Miranda and another accomplice, identified as Michael Rivera, with 18 vials of crack-cocaine. Subsequently, Miranda was found carrying a pellet gun and brass knuckles, adding a carrying a dangerous weapon charge to his offenses. Later in the day, another suspect, Raymond Maldonado, was apprehended in a separate area with cocaine and a swath of heroin/fentanyl bags, leading to his arrest as well.
The accused, ranging in age from 34 to 45, are facing multiple charges. Alfonso Rivera is charged with distribution and possession with the intent to distribute Class A and B drugs. Meanwhile, both William Miranda and Michael Rivera are charged with possession with the intent to distribute a Class B drug, among other charges. Chief Keenan detailed in the post, "The actions taken by law enforcement today serve to disrupt a significant drug distribution network within our community." These arrests are part of an ongoing effort to aggressively respond to artifact and dismantle the infrastructure that fuels the drug epidemic affecting Holyoke.
