Francesca Green, a longtime fixture in college track and field, has stepped up to the starting line as the new head coach for UTEP's Track and Field and Cross Country programs. Jim Senter, the Vice President and Director of Athletics at UTEP, didn't hold back when he announced Green's appointment, citing not just her coaching credentials but also her ability to connect with student-athletes and her unwavering dedication to their growth, both on the track and in life. "We are delighted to select Francesca Green as our new Head Coach for Track and Field and Cross Country," Senter said, as obtained by UTEP Miners.
Green herself is excited about the challenge, recognizing UTEP's "rich history, passionate fan base, and commitment to excellence," as reported by UTEP Miners. Her plans for the program include fostering high integrity and a great student-athlete experience, goals she's already proven capable of advancing during her 21 years with the University of Arizona's Athletics staff. Between 2005 and 2025, she climbed the ranks from Director of Operations to Associate Head Coach, channeling her expertise particularly into sprints and relays.
During her tenure with the Wildcats, Green honed her coaching skills and developed an impressive track record, contributing to the growth of 20 NCAA All-Americans, national qualifiers, and even Olympians. Just a look at the 2025 season under Green's wing shows a slew of record-breaking performances, demonstrating her ability to push athletes to excel. Trayvon White-Austin's Big 12 Indoor 200m title and Jade Brown's shattering of a 25-year-old outdoor 100m record are just some of the athletic achievements she fostered, as UTEP Miners detailed.
Green's influence extends beyond the field. At Arizona, her administrative duties included budget oversight and coordination with various departmental services. Perhaps, a testament to her leadership is Fred Harvey, Coach Emeritus at the University of Arizona, who described Green as ready to steer her program. "She has been groomed and she's ready to run her own program. I'm like a proud dad and can't wait to support her in everything she needs to continue the fantastic tradition in El Paso," Harvey told UTEP Miners.
