The Germantown Police Department has publicly honored two of its own for their standout service in the year 2024. Officer John Everett and Public Safety Dispatcher Kimberly Brown were named Officer and Dispatcher of the Year, respectively, casting a spotlight on their dedication to public service. With skills honed in the U.S. Army as an Abrams tank mechanic, Officer Everett has been an integral part of the Germantown Police since joining in 2021.
Evidently not one to slowly settle into a role, Everett has taken on a variety of responsibilities in the department. He has twice been named Officer of the Month and is a versatile member of the force, serving as a Field Training Officer, Crisis Intervention Team Officer, and Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement Officer, in addition to his duties as a certified pilot for the department's Drone Team. Germantown's news release also notes his volunteer work on numerous occasions beyond his normal patrols, including several community and safety events.
Dispatcher of the Year Kimberly Brown comes to the dispatch desk with a rich background in law enforcement, starting from the young age of 12 in an explorer program, and going on to serve as a reserve officer in Louisiana. Since joining the GPD Dispatch in 2021, Brown has earned her way to becoming a respected presence on the force, indicated by her being named Dispatcher of the Month three times.
During emergencies, such as the Collierville Kroger mass shooting, Brown's ability to effectively communicate and maintain composure has been critical. She holds several important certifications and recently earned an APCO Certified Training Officer certification, thereby enhancing her role as a trainer for incoming dispatchers. Officer Everett and PSDJ Brown's deep commitment to their roles were highlighted as they were honored, with the GPD underscoring in the official announcement the integral part they play in maintaining the city's safety record.
