Gresham's beloved Movies in the Park tradition just got an upgrade. No longer constrained by the need for complete darkness, the City of Gresham has innovated its outdoor cinema experience by introducing cutting-edge LED panels, courtesy of a new partnership with a high-tech vendor. According to a report from the city's official news hub, this advancement means movie buffs won't have to wait until late in the evening to enjoy a film.
Indeed, starting earlier at 6:30 PM and rolling until 10:30 PM, the community is invited to pull up a blanket or lawn chair and delve into back-to-back features. This change, though simple in concept, delivers a richer, more collaborative community experience. "We want these opportunities to gather with our neighbors to be as special as possible," Gresham Mayor Travis Stovall told the City of Gresham news site. And from the sounds of it, Gresham residents wholeheartedly agree, with positive feedback pouring in from those who attended the first enhanced screening at the Arts Plaza.
This summer's lineup promises a mix of nostalgia and recent blockbusters, accommodating varying tastes. Come July 18, Red Sunset Park will present "Inside Out" followed by the iconic "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial." On August 8, Pat Pfiefer Park will host "Mufasa: The Lion King" and "Angels in the Outfield." Finally, on August 16, cinematic adventure continues back at Red Sunset Park with "Dog Man" and "Top Gun: Maverick."
