Travel Texas has recently honored the City of Hallettsville with the title of Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community, recognizing the efforts of the local Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture/Visitor Center in promoting tourism as a strategic avenue for economic growth. This certification is part of a broader initiative to highlight communities within Texas that are capitalizing on tourism to bolster job creation and attract visitors nationwide and internationally.
During the announcement, Governor Greg Abbott highlighted tourism’s economic impact in Texas, stating that travelers generate an estimated $200 billion annually and support approximately 1.3 million jobs across the state. Hallettsville, known for events such as the Hallettsville Kolache Festival and Yule Fest, was recognized as part of Travel Texas’s initiative to promote tourism in small communities.
According to the Office of the Governor Greg Abbott, receiving this designation, Hallettsville City Administrator Grace Ward expressed pride in the city's partnership with the Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce, emphasizing the combined effort to create "a welcoming and vibrant experience for all visitors." Echoing this sentiment, the feelings of southern charm and friendly people that define Texan identity were also highlighted by Representative AJ Louderback, who congratulated Hallettsville for its commitment and achievement.
As indicated by Travel Texas, communities interested in obtaining this beneficial designation are encouraged to apply. The initiative is focused on entities that lead tourism promotion and development, aiming to leverage local attractions and culture to draw interest and economic benefits from visitors looking to explore the Texas experience.
