
Hawai‘i Island police are asking the public for help with an unsolved murder case from July 2021. The victim, 76-year-old Michael Rosenbaum, was found dead at MacKenzie State Recreation Area in Puna. An autopsy confirmed he died from a gunshot wound. The case has been classified as second-degree murder, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
The investigation into the Rosenbaum case remains ongoing. Michael Rosenbaum, a Pāhoa resident, was reported missing on July 24, 2021. On July 31, 2021, his body was found by a fisherman near the cliffs below the beach park. Police have not identified any significant leads at this time, as reported by the Hawaii Police Department.
The Area I Criminal Investigation Section is asking for the public’s help in the case of Michael Rosenbaum. "Police ask anyone with information about this case to call the police department's nonemergency number at (808) 935-3311," the department stated. Information can also be shared anonymously through Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300. A reward of up to $1,000 may be offered for tips that lead to an arrest.
