Authorities in Hazelwood are appealing to the public for assistance following an incident that left a local police officer injured during a traffic stop this past weekend. The Hazelwood Police Department reported the event took place in the 7000 block of Berkridge Drive, just before noon on Saturday. An officer, whose name hasn't been disclosed, pulled over a gold, four-door Buick sedan, which was already being sought by St. Louis County Police for a felony related to fleeing. As described by First Alert 4, during the stop, the driver abruptly attempted to make a getaway, inadvertently dragging the officer "a short distance."
The officer was fortunately able to break free from the vehicle, but not without sustaining injuries that required hospital evaluation. "The officer is doing okay," a statement from the Hazelwood Police Department as mentioned by First Alert 4 seemingly signifies a relief amidst the gravity of the events. The suspect, meanwhile, is still at large, with local law enforcement requesting any information that could help to quickly identify and locate the person involved.
As the investigation unfolds, law enforcement is piecing together the narrative that led up to this violent encounter. What began as a routine procedure unfolded into something far more harrowing, with an officer's life briefly ensnared by the desperation of a fleeing suspect. The officer was able to break free of the car, as reported by the Audacy.
The Hazelwood Police Department has provided a description of the suspect's vehicle, urging anyone with information to come forward. In accordance with reports from FOX2Now, the Buick is gold in color and crucially, is implicated in prior incidents of fleeing from law enforcement. Hazelwood Police can be reached by calling 314-838-5000, extension 1, as they actively seek to bring the responsible party to justice.
