The City of Hickory is once again opening its doors to residents curious about the inner workings of municipal operations through its Neighborhood College program, as reported earlier today. Set to start this fall, the program promises a deep dive into city government for those with a vested interest in understanding the gears that turn their community.
According to the official City of Hickory website, the Neighborhood College is not just a lecture series; it's a hands-on, behind-the-scenes look that includes tours of city facilities, demonstrations by local departments, and an insider's glimpse into day-to-day operations and future city planning, and it's completely free to participants.
The initiative has been structured as an array of ten sessions, each scheduled for Monday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., beginning September 15, culminating in a graduation ceremony coinciding with the Hickory City Council meeting on November 18. This connection to the council meeting is designed to imprint upon graduates the civic rhythm of the city, its governance pulse.
Those interested in becoming more engaged citizens through the program should take heed, space is limited to 30 people and the deadline for applications is approaching on August 15; to be eligible, one must either live or work within the city limits and complete the necessary online forms, further details including how to apply can be found on the city's website or by contacting Sarah Killian, Senior Communications Specialist, directly at either 828-261-2290 or via email at [email protected].
