In a recent crackdown on drug activity in Holyoke, police officers seized crack-cocaine, heroin, and cash during a quality-of-life property check late Thursday evening. According to the Holyoke Police Department's social media post, the operation led by Captain Mark Harrison and Sergeant Dustin Summers was aimed at curbing open-air drug dealing on 546 South Bridge Street.

As the officers approached, the presence of police scattered a group congregating in the area. Amidst the commotion, Miguel Perez, 33, was detained after he appeared to resist and reached into his pocket. According to the Holyoke Police Department, Officer Justo Pagan and Johnathan Ortiz found pepper spray in Perez’s pocket, along with 31 vials of crack-cocaine, two bags of heroin, and, a crack pipe in his fanny pack. Additionally, around $100 in cash was confiscated.

Perez faces multiple charges, including distribution and possession of Class A and B controlled substances. The Holyoke Police Department stated that the confiscation is part of ongoing efforts to address drug activity in the city.

According to an official announcement posted to the department’s Facebook page, Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan stated that at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, officers recovered more than 30 vials of crack-cocaine, heroin, and cash during a quality-of-life property check.
