
A fire broke out at the playground in Sheridan Community Park in Makiki on Monday. The first unit arrived seven minutes after the 8:45 a.m. call and found the playground equipment on fire, according to the Honolulu Fire Department.
A four-person team from the Honolulu Fire Department quickly responded to the scene and controlled the flames within minutes. By 8:56 a.m., the fire was fully extinguished. Investigators, using an Accelerant Detection Canine, determined the fire was intentionally set.
A fire at a local playground caused an estimated $85,000 to $150,000 in damage. The Honolulu Fire Department responded quickly, and no injuries were reported. Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire, with help from a canine unit that detected possible accelerants. Community members have raised concerns about park safety and are asking for support to repair the damage.
