Honolulu Governor Josh Green has been elected to the National Governors Association Executive Committee during the National Governors Association Summer Meeting in Colorado Springs, his office announced. The role gives Hawai‘i a place in setting operational and policy priorities on issues such as economic growth, education, and energy resilience, according to the Office of the Governor.
Governor Josh Green will serve as vice chair of the Western Governors’ Association before becoming chair on July 1, 2026. He will be the fourth governor from Hawai‘i to hold the position, continuing the state’s role in the association. “These national leadership roles allow me to advocate for the people of Hawai‘i on a broader stage,” Governor Green said. He noted that his priorities include climate resilience, healthcare access, and economic stability, as reported by the Office of the Governor.
Governor Josh Green will take part in the National Governors Association Chair’s Initiative, Reigniting the American Dream, alongside NGA Chair Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma and Vice Chair Wes Moore of Maryland. The initiative will address national challenges, with healthcare policy as a main focus. Governor Green will lead multistate discussions on health innovation and bring Hawai‘i’s perspective to the talks. Hawai‘i is also set to host the 2026 Western Governors’ Association winter meeting, which will focus on issues such as wildfire response, water policy, energy, and regional economic development, as stated by the Office of the Governor.
