Foodies in Houston are gearing up for a two-week celebration of Latin cuisine as the annual Latin Restaurant Weeks spices up the city from July 11 through July 25. The event boasts a roster of local favorites and exciting new ventures with an array of dishes that honor diverse cultural traditions. According to Click2Houston, the community is invited to "eat with intention" and discover the depth of Latin America's culinary heritage represented in Houston's food scene.
This year marks the seventh installment of the gastronomic initiative, allowing food lovers to delve deeply into an array of flavors from Dominican-inspired dishes, Afro-Caribbean stews, to Peruvian ceviches and Latin-fusion inventions. The event is not just about sampling food; it's also about appreciating the stories behind every dish. "Latin Restaurant Weeks was created to spotlight the cultural richness woven into each dish and story," co-founder Karinn Chavarria-Luckett told the Houston Chronicle.
Expect to explore a variety of tastes at eateries ranging from food trucks like Tacos Doña Lena to high-end spots such as Botonica. Participating venues are also offering signature dishes and specials designed to exclusively celebrate the occasion. The campaign supports local businesses by providing a platform, along with necessary business resources. Restaurants participating in the event pay a one-time fee and keep all the revenue they generate over the two weeks.
The line-up of participants, which includes much-raved-about BBQ713 and new-kids-on-the-block like Raspas Delicias, reflects the diversity of Latin culture that you can to fully immerse yourself into. Each establishment presents a unique opportunity to taste the essence of Latin culinary artistry. Originally born in Houston, Latin Restaurant Weeks has successfully expanded to major cities across the United States, such as Atlanta and Los Angeles.
