Leaders from the technology and nuclear energy sectors met at the AI x Nuclear Energy Executive Summit on Thursday and Friday to discuss how to meet the energy needs of artificial intelligence. The event was co-hosted by Argonne, Idaho National Laboratory, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, with support from the U.S. Department of Energy. The summit focused on how AI and nuclear energy can work together to provide reliable and scalable energy solutions.

A recent summit brought together leaders from the energy and technology sectors to discuss how nuclear energy can support growing digital demands driven by AI. The event focused on how AI can help improve reactor design, plant operations, and speed up nuclear energy deployment through better modeling, design, and regulatory processes. U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright said, “To power AI and to power our world, the most promising source, alongside our backbone hydrocarbon system, is nuclear,” according to the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

The AI x Nuclear Energy Executive Summit focused on the role of private-public partnerships in using AI in nuclear energy. Idaho National Laboratory Director John Wagner said AI is helping improve fuel technologies and plant operations. Argonne National Laboratory stated that these partnerships help speed up the use of AI in the field. The summit ended with agreement on the need for strong infrastructure to support AI. Information also came from the Department of Energy’s Office of Science and UT-Battelle, which manages Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
