Iredell County has officially designated Daryl Conley as its first Director of Public Safety, a significant addition to the county's leadership team. With over three decades in public safety and emergency management roles, Conley's experience includes a solid tenure as Deputy Commander (Lieutenant Colonel) of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. His new responsibilities will span several critical departments: Animal Services, Emergency Communications (ECOM), Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Emergency Management/Fire Services, as detailed in Iredell County's official announcement.
"Daryl brings a wealth of knowledge, a steady leadership style, and decades of experience to this important role," County Manager Beth Milton highlighted, citing the collective acknowledgment of Conley's impressive career thus far. These upcoming responsibilities also include the interim directorship of Emergency Communications, pending the installment of a permanent figure.
Conley is no stranger to managing complex operations. He's steered the ship through large-scale events and natural disasters, accumulating hands-on emergency management prowess. His oversight at the Newton and Raleigh Communications Centers and his leadership of the NC VIPER communications team are testament to his command over sophisticated communication systems and emergency response protocols. Conley also brings an academic grounding to the table, holding a bachelor’s in political science from Winston-Salem State University and alumni status from prestigious programs such as the Administrative Officer Management Program and the FBI National Academy.
Embarking on his new journey this month, Conley is positioned to strongly influence Iredell County’s public safety framework, harnessing his wealth of knowledge to enhance its readiness and response capabilities. The expectations are high, his experience unparalleled, which suggests a promising future for the county under his guidance.
