In a recent festive recognition of its long-serving staff, Iredell Health System commemorated a collective 4,200 years of employee dedication - a testament to the loyalty and commitment present within its ranks. The health system marked this milestone by hosting celebratory events for team members who have, for anywhere between a quinquennial to an impressive half a century, contributed to serving the community.
According to a recent release from Iredell Health System, those hitting the 5, 10, and 15-year markers were treated to an ice cream social during work, administered by none other than the executive team. Meanwhile, the 20-plus year veterans enjoyed a more upscale evening. They assembled at the Statesville Country Club for a dinner party complete with an awards ceremony, desserts, and the novel entertainment of music bingo, conducted by Dr. Joseph Mazzola, the Vice President of Medical Affairs.
Melanie Sleime, the Assistant Vice President of Human Resources, was there to educate and entertain with trivia that showcased the health system's storied past, having recently celebrated its own 71st birthday in May. She highlighted the longevity of IHS, noting that it predates many modern cultural staples. "The health system is older than the internet, the Superbowl, space missions, and The Rolling Stones. We hold dear to our values and tonight, we have a chance to thank you to those that made it happen," Sleime shared as part of the night's festivities.
Award recipients weren't just left with a warm glow of being recognised; they also walked away with special gifts, tokens of appreciation from an organization evidently keen on ensuring its staff know their value. Assistant Director of Radiation Therapy, Shellie Brown, was one of the long-standing employees, clocking in 35 years with IHS. "Working for IHS has been a deeply fulfilling journey for me," Brown told Iredell Health System. "It has allowed me to witness and contribute to the evolution of healthcare and to be part of countless stories of hope and healing."
Another pride of IHS, Cindy Gibson, Assistant Director of The Birth Place, was also spotlighted for her identical tenure of service. She revealed a touching moment reflective of the cyclical nature of care at the health system. "Not only do I love helping to bring new life into the world, but the team of people I work with is like family to me," Gibson said. She fondly remembered that a baby she once cared for has now grown into a colleague. "That makes me smile," she added, defining the generational continuity that makes Iredell Health System's commitment to the community beautifully tangible.
