While the wind will be a mild southwest breeze at 5 to 8 mph, heat index values might soar as high as 101 degrees, painting a sweltering picture for the day. A similar pattern is expected tonight, although the chance of rain falls slightly to 30 percent before 9 pm.
Entering Tuesday, showers and thunderstorms become more likely after 2 pm, with a 60 percent chance of precipitation and high temperatures hovering near 92 degrees. The weather service warns of new rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Tuesday night doesn't offer much reprieve, keeping the chance of precipitation consistent at 60 percent.
The pattern of afternoon showers and thunderstorms continues throughout the week, with Wednesday seeing a 70 percent chance of rainfall after 11 am. The evenings will provide some slight relief, but with showers and thunderstorms still "likely before 11 pm," according to the NWS report. High temperatures for the day will once again be near the 92-degree mark, giving residents no break from the heat.
By Thursday, the series of thunderstorms doesn't let up, starting as early as 8 am with a 70 percent chance of precipitation. Into the weekend, Jacksonville will see an 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoons and evenings. Temperatures will remain consistently high, with indices flirting with the low 90s.
