In honor of Independence Day, the city of Jacksonville has announced a temporary shutdown of all Sheriff’s Office public-facing buildings today. According to a statement from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, these closures will affect locations throughout the city, including a list of local substations and the Police Memorial Building.

Specifically, offices such as the District 1 Substation on Norwood Avenue, and the District 2 Substation on Merrill Road, will not be open for public transactions. The same goes for the further flung District 3 Substation on Liberty Ridge Drive, and the District 4 Substation on Blanding Boulevard. Together, with District 5 Substation on Kings Road, and District 6 Substation on Dunn Avenue, these offices are taking a day off to observe the national celebration.

Despite the commemorative closure, essential services remain operational. The Sheriff's Office has confirmed that "The Patrol Division and the Communications Center will continue to operate as usual." This means Jacksonville’s residents can expect no interruption to law enforcement patrols or communication services. For non-emergencies, citizens can dial the office’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. The Sheriff's Office also reminds the public to call 9-1-1 for any emergency scenarios that arise.

The Jacksonville community's cooperative spirit is expected to shine as it has in previous years, with people enjoying their barbecues and fireworks, knowing their city's protectors are never off-duty. As usual, public facilities will resume normal operation the following business day.
