Next week marks the start of a significant revamp for pedestrian facilities in and around the Jefferson City area. According to MoDOT, a contract valued at over $1.2 million was awarded to Concrete Solution LLC, aiming to enhance sidewalks, curb ramps, and pavement to meet the standards set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Beginning Tuesday, July 22, Taos will see the first wave of these improvements, starting on Cole County Route M, from Firehouse Lane up to just east of Stoney Gap Road.

The areas set for upgrades are not limited to Taos alone, with plans including several locations across Jefferson City, Wardsville, and even Frankenstein in Osage County. The project will also entail improvements to Business Route 50, Missouri Boulevard, and bridges spanning U.S. Route 54. Yet, all of these are subject to the whims of weather which may dictate the exact scheduling and order of operations.

MoDOT has announced that during the construction, there will be temporary closures of pedestrian pathways and occasional one-lane closures with flaggers directing traffic. The project is scheduled to be completed by December 15, weather permitting.

MoDOT is reminding drivers to buckle up, put your phone down, obey all traffic signs, and slow down and move over in work zones. These traffic changes are part of efforts to improve access and safety for all road users.
