A routine JetBlue flight took an unexpected turn on the ground at Orlando International Airport yesterday, veering off the tarmac while preparing for takeoff. Flight 488 was en route to Worcester, Massachusetts, and experienced a delay that pushed its departure time well into the afternoon, as noted by FlightAware. Originally set to take off before 10 a.m., the aircraft did not begin taxiing until after 2 p.m.
The incident, although startling, resulted in no injuries among passengers or crew. According to a statement from a JetBlue spokesperson detailed by ClickOrlando, the aircraft's nose gear ended up in the grass after leaving the taxiway. Following the mishap, those aboard were deplaned and bussed back to the terminal, ensuring their safety given the circumstances.
JetBlue's commitment to passenger safety was underscored in its response to the incident. "At JetBlue, safety is our highest priority. We are conducting a thorough investigation and will work closely with the appropriate authorities to determine the cause of the incident," the spokesperson affirmed in a statement quoted by WFTV.
The thorough investigation promised by JetBlue aims to determine the root cause of why the aircraft deviated off course. Continued by bus, passengers were taken back to the JetBlue terminal in Orlando, with officials confirming the safety of the deplaning process.
