
A July 4th celebration in Revere, Massachusetts took a chaotic turn as police and state troopers were called to a scene where a large crowd had gathered and was setting off illegal fireworks. According to a social media post from Revere Police, the festivities became dangerous when the fireworks posed threats to public safety, prompting a response from multiple law enforcement agencies.
The situation escalated when some individuals in the crowd became aggressive, prompting police to request mutual aid from surrounding areas. It was during this response that a Massachusetts State Police trooper was injured by a moped that drove through the crowd. The trooper's injuries were non-life-threatening, and they were quickly taken to a local hospital for care. As the event unfolded, officers from Chelsea, Winthrop, Everett, Boston, Saugus, Malden, and the Transit Police Department were also called to assist in managing the scene.
In dealing with the commotion, Revere Police Department arrested two individuals: Damien Hutchinson, 42, from Malden, and Shaheed Baker, 40, from Chelsea. Both face charges of assault and battery & resisting arrest. "I would like to thank all of our law enforcement partners that sent officers to assist us in handling the large crowd last night," Revere Police Interim Chief Maria LaVita said in a statement. "Officers were able to de-escalate the situation and maintain public safety."
The police response to the disruptive celebration highlights the law enforcement activity required during public holidays. According to reports, no Revere Police officers were injured during the incident, which concluded without further escalation.
