
A tragic unfolding occurred in Calhoun County when a Kalamazoo shooting victim suffered a fatal medical emergency while confined in a patrol car. The incident transpired following a reported altercation on Sunday in Pennfield Township, according to CBS News Detroit. Calhoun County sheriff's deputies arrived at a residence on North Avenue after receiving a call about shots being fired around 11:37 a.m.
The sheriff's office detailed that when deputies arrived, they quickly found a 35-year-old man from Kalamazoo in the driveway, who was subsequently placed in a patrol car to try to safely ascertain the sequence of events. It is reported that during this time, he began to experience a medical emergency. The deputies and responding medical personnel administered first aid, but they were unable to save the man; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The report shared by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office stated, "First aid was administered immediately, and paramedics and firefighters assisted in his care; however, he was pronounced dead at the scene."
According to authorities, an investigation into the shooting revealed that a physical altercation had occurred that included the discharged firearm, though it was confirmed that no one was struck by the bullet. A 45-year-old Battle Creek man has been taken into custody on suspicion of firing the weapon. Witnesses described seeing two men in a physical dispute before the gun was fired, with other family members, including children and one bed-bound individual, barricading themselves within a bedroom for protection.
