In an effort to forge ties between law enforcement and community members, the Lakewood Police Department (LPD) is set to casually bring locals and law enforcement together over a spread of meats, cheeses, and lively conversation. The department's "Charcuterie with a Cop" event is scheduled for this coming Friday, from 2 PM to 4 PM at Gingham Market, situated on 17000 Madison Avenue.
The quirky-sounding gathering is part of an outreach initiative aimed, notably, to establish transparent dialogue and provide a taste of goodwill, as the officers behind the badges mingle amongst those they've sworn to protect and serve. "Come meet Lakewood's Neighborhood Officers, grab a bite to eat, and strike up a conversation while supporting a local business. Hope to see you there!" announced the Lakewood Police Department (LPD) in a recent social media post.
This initiative by the LPD comes at a time when departments across the country are seeking new avenues to constructively engage their communities, aiming to close gaps that past methods might not have fully bridged. With informal events like these, Lakewood's officers are seemingly set to break bread—or should we say, charcuterie—in a neutral and inviting environment. The gathering invites community members to delve deeper into topics that matter to them and directly address their protectors in a setting that encourages open communication in an atmosphere free from the tension that formal settings sometimes present.
