Community events in Lānaʻi under Holomua Kākou have been postponed as county officials assess damage from the recent tsunami warning. Maui Mayor Richard Bissen said, “Unfortunately, we are postponing our Holomua Kākou visit to our Lānaʻi community so that our team is able to conduct countywide damage assessments following the July 29 tsunami watch and warning.” According to the County of Maui, the events will be rescheduled, though no new date has been announced.

A tsunami warning was issued after an 8.8-magnitude earthquake off the Kamchatka Peninsula. The County of Maui Emergency Management Agency fully activated at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and the National Weather Service downgraded the warning to an advisory at 11:05 p.m.

Mayor Bissen’s Holomua Kākou initiative, which connects county government with rural Maui communities, has postponed its visit to Lānaʻi due to recent natural events. The county plans to reschedule the visit, and similar events are still scheduled for East Maui and Molokaʻi in August. Mayor Bissen said, "We look forward to rescheduling our visit as soon as possible and mahalo you for your understanding," as reported by the County of Maui.
