As summer lingers, Las Cruces prepares to foster community bonds with its annual National Night Out event. On Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 5-9 p.m., locals are invited to converge in Downtown Las Cruces for a blend of camaraderie and community outreach.
The neighborhood initiative will transform Plaza de Las Cruces and a stretch of Main Street into a hub of interaction between residents, first responders, and various service-based organizations. According to the City of Las Cruces, giveaways and resource cards will be available to attendees at no charge, all while making the most of the evening outdoors.
Parking, which often can be a hassle for downtown events, will be available along Church and Water streets, in nearby lots adjacent to Thomas Branigan Memorial Library and City Hall, and not to mention the parking garage at City Hall, a minor detail meant to alleviate the concerns of day-out planners.
With safety in mind, participants are encouraged to enjoy the festivities responsibly, especially as the city's educational institutions reopen for the fall semester. Speaking to the integral nature of the event, "National Night Out is celebrated annually on the first Tuesday in August and helps enhance the relationships between neighbors, first responders and service organizations," as emphasized by the City of Las Cruces.
