Residents of Las Cruces, mark your calendars for an interactive face-to-face with local law enforcement officers. The Las Cruces Police Department has scheduled a town hall meeting, promising to foster open communication with the community. Set for July 16 at 6 p.m., the meeting will be hosted at the Las Cruces Home Builder's Association, located at 2825 N. Main St. Chief Jeremy Story will kick off the event with a briefing on recent crime statistics and updates from the department.

This town hall diverges from the typical format; instead, attendees will have the unique chance to attend various breakout sessions to directly converse with LCPD section and team leaders. According to the City of Las Cruces, these sessions will include insights into Internal Affairs, Criminal Investigations, Recruiting and Training, Patrol, Traffic, and Community Outreach.

After an introductory period, participants will be invited to select a session, delve into discussions about specific department sections, and then interact with the teams at the helm. The setup aims to facilitate candid dialogues, hopefully leading to greater mutual understanding and collaboration between law enforcement and community members.

About 30 minutes into the discussion, attendees will then get the opportunity to seamlessly switch tables, to also learn about another section. To ensure that every voice is heard, LCPD personnel will be taking notes and accepting suggestions during the breakout sessions, and there will also be chances for one-on-one conversations with command staff. The event is not planned to be broadcast in any form, hence locals are urged to arrive early to secure a place at this gathering.
